Life Can Be A Drag - Line That Is!

Today I am going to share a tip with you…it is time to make a dragline!

So, what is a drag line you ask?  It can be as simple as an old leash cut down to 2-3 feet or so. 

Don’t have an old leash, then a piece of 550 cord works great, or even an old clothesline line…do people still have those?

Basically, you want a thin, lightweight cord that your pup can drag around the house without getting tangled up.

If using an old leash, you need to cut the handle, this will ensure that your puppy does not get hung up on the furniture.  Also never leave your pup unattended with a drag line on, that is just a recipe for disaster.

Keeping in mind that a drag line is typically not “training”, it is management and acclimation.

So, in what way is using a dragline handy?

  • Scenario #1 - your dog is staying juuuust out of reach, because he does not want to be caught. You can calmly place your foot on the line, allowing you to catch him.
